After more than a year of staging illegal, underground lectures at undisclosed locations, the Lecture Series hosted its first public event at the Portland Center for the Advancement of Culture's newly opened Modern Zoo. This program examined the culture and politics of food and eating.

The Hunt for the Humongous Fungus slide lecture and video by Andrew Dickson

Film maker, actor, and mushroom lover Andrew Dickson takes us on a journey to visit the world's largest organism, the Grand Lord of the Fifth Kingdom, the Humongous Fungus. Dickson traveled to central Oregon to visit the enormous underground mushroom. His talk freely mixed fungus facts and amusing personal anecdotes from his voyage.

Working in a Green Bean Cannery lecture and video report by Matthew Yake

Matthew Yake shows us around a green been cannery in Salem Oregon where he worked as a youth. His job involved removing things from the dreaded "dead animal belt". Yake revisits this site from his youth and comes to terms with the canning industry through his encounter and friendship with a retired cannery worker and cannery history buff.

Portland's famous young restaurateur Michael Hebb talks about his experiences founding "Family Supper", and underground restaurant/social experiment that succeed far beyond his projections.

Chef's chef Robert Reynolds describes food and cooking in the French tradition, relaying stories of his experiences cooking all over the world.

Cake Walk and Waiter Obstacle Course

Lecture goers enjoyed themselves and won cakes in a techno-music driven cake walk. Meanwhile, brave veterans of the service industry battled in a high stakes obstacle course race while carrying drinks on platters.
